It looks like the 'ole Nova is gonna get 100 more cubic inches. ;D I just got back from talking to a guy (same guy that sold me my Nova) about a 400 he has, it's never been run and he says he has over a $1000 in it. the only problem is that it's been sitting on the back of a truck for 6 years with only a tarp on it but we pulled the intake and heads off it and the #1 cylinder has some rust in it but not TOO bad, the rest look brand new.(maybe because they are? ;D) The motor has been bored .030 over and the crank has been turned .010 under. He's going to drop the motor off at the shop in the morning and I'll tear it apart to put fresh assembly lube on the bearings and I might have to hone the #1 cylinder. He still hasnt given me price yet because he wants me to tear it apart first to make sure it's not a lemon, but I'm sure he won't want a whole lot for it.
I'll have pictures tomorrow.

The only thing that worries me is the compression, I have no idea what kinda compression this motor has...I think it has "dished" pistons but I could be wrong...they look "dished", there not like normal flat top pistons with 4 valve reliefs, they look...well............................"dished"....

lol, I helped a friend tear apart a 400 that had been sitting for a good 4 years. It ran like a champ after we cleaned everything. GL man!

If the rust in the cylinder isnt too bad, good hone (how ever you spell it, im no rocket scientist as you can see lol), should do the job. Dished pistons, depends on how dished they are, usually people use those for lower compression if they put a turbo or blower or something like that on later.

I think it should be around 8.5:1-9:1. Anyways, we got the motor all torn apart today and it's all nice and clean now. It is in GREAT shape, he must have spent more than $1000 on this motor, it has had the rods honed, brand new oil pump, a crane cam, (260 duration, 427 lift) and all kinds of good stuff. I have the motor completely stripped and all the parts cleaned so I'm going to put alot of it back together tomorrow. He wants $700 for it and I think thats a steal, he's going to let me pay monthly on it too. If all goes according to plan, the motor should be back in, in a few weeks and running. ;D ;D ;D
BTW, I did hone all the cylinder walls and now they look all nice and shiney. ;D ;D ;D

I already gave him a $100 down payment...no turning back now. I got most of the motor back together today, I'm waiting on a bearing to do one rod because when he put the piston in the first time he knicked the crank and it left some burr on it and it screwed the bearing up, no big deal though.
I'll try to get some pictures later today....need batteries.

Looks good. All you need now is to paint the outside to make it look as good as the inside, and get it all together and dropped in your car

Way ahead of ya, it's all painted and sitting in the car, you'd never know that it's not the old 307, you can hardly see the third freeze plug and you'll never see it when the headers are in.

Alot of people cant tell the differences in different engines to start with. Even harder for them when its put together to look like the old engine.
