Ok so now that ive gotten most of the rust n what not out of the interior and its almos ready to be put back together, i want to start learning about performance.
as i kno now the car has a 305 edelbrock intake n custom headers. I dont like the 305 as it is so i think im going to try n swap it as soon as i get a chance or find something else that i like.
But i kno theres some other things that come into effect, like gears.
i kno the car has a 10bolt rear and im sure the lame ass that had it before me didnt put on a posi.
but how do i tell what ratio is in it now, and what should i try to get?
and how much is it going to cost to get that ratio and a posi?
and on another note, i kno i would like to put a 350 or a 327 into the nova, but im not too sure on where i should be lookin for the engine or how much should i have to pay for it.
i dont mind doin the work to it as long as i kno that the balls i bust fixing it will show in the end. any websites or misc info would b appreciated on all this crap.
figured that i could get the best info here cuz i kno u guys kno all that stuff like the back of your hand, help me out plz.
n thx for ur time

It depends on what your looking for, you can get 3.73 gears but your gas mileage will suck you can go with 3.08 but the performance will suffer a little. If your looking for a good all around gears set I would go with 3.23. You can get a set for around $175 but I would have someone who knows what they are doing set it up.(no offence but I wouldnt even attempt to set one up) As for a posi unit, I would find an original GM one one ebay.

If you plan on rebuilding a engine with all new parts, you can pick up a 350 pretty cheap. Couple hundred bucks. 3.73's gears would be nice for performance. But like 73nova73 said, it will affect your gas milage. Id go with what 73nova said, 3.23 gears. Or 3.55's would be nice. They shouldnt be any more then around $200. My car has a posi lock in it, but it came with the car when I got it. So I dont know how much those cost. Not much tho.
