It is something that you do not see often ... a fast Volvo Well if 12.7 @ 112 is fast then you should like this sleeper It is a 1989 740 Turbo, but under the hood is a 350HP Ford 302 driving a Ford Racing close ratio 5 speed to the 3.73 rear axle. Lowered with iPd comp suspension and many other goodies.

Thats a pretty cool sleeper. Most people would never expect a volvo to be that fast. Nice ride man, welcome to the forum.

Pretty neat car, it would look a whole lot better though with a small block Chevy under the hood.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Being an "old school" mechanic I looked seriously at both Chev and Ford power plants. Although the higher HP was available through the Chev I was looking for the best "package" The Ford engine weighed 100 pounds less and with the distributor located at the front I was able to position the engine lower and back further which greatly enhances the vehicle balance. Weight distribution is very close to 50/50.
I should mention that over the winter I will be installing a new, and of course "better", engine. Custom blueprinted shortblock, forged 10.5:1, full ARP bolts/studs, DSS stud girdle, custom ported Edelbrock Perfomer RPM heads (flow over 280 cfm), custom cam with 224/232 duration and .592"/601" lift, 1 3/4" long tube headers, etc. Hope to get into the low 12's

I see you wanted the weight distribution to be as close to 50/50 as possible, and say you have some stuff done to the suspension (which a good suspension and balance is a good thing to have). Do you ever race it on a road course? Or just wanted to improve daily drivablitly, and performance?

Well I have to answer your question yes & no. First realize I am more that twice the age of most of you. When I was much younger I raced in several classes including Pro Stage Rallying, IP (Improved Touring), and Formula Ford. Because of this background I always improve handling and brakes prior to engine modifications. I do take the car out to the road track occasionally to thash it, but not abuse it. The car is really designed as a fun car that I enter in a bunch of local car shows.
