My dad did do some work to the car, but it was no where near the shape it is now. And he didnt give it to me. I had a truck that I had traded a car I used to own. (car I bought) Then I traded him the truck for the car. He didnt GIVE it to me. Im not going to lie, He did some work to it, and I have gotten some free minor things from my grandpa.
Not like my parents bought me a 8 second drag car with cash, and Ive never had to work at it to get it to where it is.

Ive gotten in a lot of convo's with ppl talking about their first cars, and I bring up the 60 fairlane I owned a long time ago. They ask about it, and I tell them how my grandpa payed for it, and payed for the parts, then they give me hell for it. I guess they think a 12 - 13 year old (how old I was when I got it), is suppost to be able to get a job and afford to build it? lol

ok, see if you can run my combo.
if you need anymore info just let me know.
its a 383ci stroker (chevy). comp cams XE274 hydraulic camshaft (if you need specs i can go to summit and look them up). roller tip rocker arms
heads: 1979 cast heads with 1.50 and 1.90 valves home port and polish (took out ALL the burrs, an trust me.. there were A LOT). comp cams conicle valve springs
edlebrock performer RPM intake manifold with an edelbrock performer 750cfm carb.
stock ignition. clutch fan.
long tube headers. 1 5/8 inch primaries with 3inch collector and dual 3 inch straight pipes and 3" flowmaster on each pipe.
need anymore info, just let me know
run that, and then again with a NOS sniper 150hp kit, if you can. ive never used DD so i dont know how much you can change.

Compression ratio?

Post by nervekiler on Jul 3, 2004 1:55:47 GMT -5
wow not exactly sure on the compression ratio, but lets just take a guess and say 9.5 to 1. that sound about right for a engine with GM cast heads? it runs fine on 87 octane so i know its not high compression.

What pistons do you have?
It says 353 HP @ 5,000 rpm & 409 ft-lbs of tq. @ 3,500 rpm.
I had to use the flow data from stock 882 casting heads because I have no idea what the flow would be with a port job.
Desktop dyno is kinda stupid, just add 150 HP to 353, thats what the program does.

im using .040 over Speed Pro hyperuectic pistons. here is what they look like you notice the tops are flat and there is only a place to allow the valves on one side. so im guessin that raises compression slightly. at TDC the piston comes about a 1/8 of an inch above the surface of the block. and as for flow, when i bought the engine it came with a receipt that i am assuming is a flow chart? it says: PRESS 57.3 <00.0 FLOW 30.6 <00.0 TORQ 02.4 <00.0 TACH 000 TIME 97.38 TEMP 127 i dont know if this is a flow chart or not.. but im guessin it might be since it says flow. and those numbers were taken before the port job (and the port job took A LOT of crude out of there.. i cant believe GM would make a head with that many obstructions to flow).

My caprice runs like a dog on 87 for some reason.. has a weird tapping sound and runs like crap.. on 89 it runs fine..

Are these it? www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=4394&prmenbr=361I'm not sure what those numbers mean on that receipt, I'm kinda new to desktop dyno myself. As for GM leaving all the obstructions in the heads, well, it's a mass produced head, it's just part of the casting process. They didn't have the machines that we have today and it would have costed them alot of money to deburr every head by hand.

ok so according to that list, the closest flat top with two valve relieves for a SBC says i would be at 9.1 compresssion. but thats for a 327ci engine.
and yea, my caprice runs like crap on 87 octane too. it tries to deisel when i turn it off, so i usually run 89 octane and it does fine.
