If they can remember the numbers that easy..they should know the differences in the engines. Unless they are just book smart. And not experiance smart

It's alive!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Got everthing hooked up, primed the oil, dumped some gas down the carb and it started right up. I kept it at 2,000 rpm for 20 minutes to break the cam in and seat the rings then I turned back the idle to 900 and set the valves, it has a slight ticking noise but I'm pretty sure it's an exhaust leak because I use manifold gaskets not header gaskets. Damn that thing runs good, sounds a hell of alot meaner than the 307 too. It burned 2 gallons of gas in 45 minutes tho.

I did find one new problem tho (besides the gas problem) I put the tranny in gear and then started the motor to see if the wheels would turn, they did but every time I let off the gas the wheels would stop really fast, I think theres a clutch pack sticking or something. I'll take it for a little drive around the shop when I get some brakes on it to see it anything is wrong.

Yea probally just the clutch sticking a little.
Does it have any brakes at all on it? I started to say maybe the rear hubs froze up a little (even tho it hasnt been sitting for that long of a time). But if it has no brakes at all, chances are there isnt enuff left to grab.

Nope, no brakes at all, the wheels turn freely when the tranny is in nuetral.

Ahh. Yea it probally is the clutch pack sticking then. About 8 months ago I had been doing some stuff to my old truck when it was still over at my grandpa's, and I hadnt had a chance to run it in a about a month and half. Clutch and all was stuck to the flywheel, it would bog down the truck and choke it out it was so bad. And it takes alot to bog that truck down.

It's probably because it sat so long, only thing that pisses me of is that the tranny was rebuilt 2 years before the car was parked.

Nice to see your engine up and running, now get your front end on, paint it, and drive it around some

Saturday I'll probably say fuck it and put it in low gear, start it up and hope for the best, I'll probably have to bang into the fork lift to stop though.

Dont remember if I showed yall this before or not. Old picture I found of my engine when I first started to build it long time ago. It was a regular pic, and I dont have a scanner so its blurry because I just took a pic of the pic lol.

Cool, was that when you first got it or after you rebuilt it?

Thats when I first got the new bearings, crank, cam, and timing chain/gears installed on it. (not long after I got the block). I had started putting the pistons/rods in when that pic was taken. That yellow plastic bag like in the bottom right hand of pic is what the main bearings came in.
I had to take turns using the engine stand. It was busy with a 283 at the time of that pic. I had mine sitting on a rubber mat keeping it from getting trash and shit in it.

Looks like it's standing on bolts too. Is that a new crank? Looks shiney. What kind of cam did you use?
