Saturday I'll probably say fuck it and put it in low gear, start it up and hope for the best, I'll probably have to bang into the fork lift to stop though. The tranny is fine, I jacked the car up, put it in drive, started the motor and it works fine now. I buried the needle in the dash so I'm not too worried anymore, I'm not sure what was wrong last weekend. It was smooth too, no strange noises or vibrations. (Why do I feel like I'm talking to myself?)

Yea it was a new crank. All the parts where new. When I first built it (when pic was taken there). It had a Crane cam, nothing special but above stock. It hasnt had the newer cam in it long. Its a .498? lift and 290? duration. Think thats the specs, I have the spec sheet (with grind number) somewhere in my room buried in a box of papers. Its a comp cam btw. I had planned on getting a .575 lift, and 290 duration cam, but figured Id just wait. Need to save up for some new springs, and get roller lifter and rocker set before I go any bigger.

That's a pretty big cam, 290 degrees of duration is alot.

Yea. The one I started to get had the same duration, but more lift. I figured id get one with alot of duration, but less lift...which means less stress on valve springs. Solid lifters too...sound good, but you have to adjust them all the time.

Yeah, I don't care for solid because you have to adjust them alot.

I wouldnt worry about stress on the springs, the reason most people get stiffer springs is so that the valves don't start floating at higher rpms.

Mine acted like it wanted to float the valves one or two times before...but I really havent had any problems out of it.

How fast have you dared turn the motor? My personal limit for the 400 is 4500, it acts like it wants to rev though, strange for a 400.

Ive had mine up around 6 grand. It could have gone farther, but I didnt want to push it, plus my power is mostly bottom end - mid range anyway. I usually dont let mine get higher 5,000. I think my cam's power runs out around 5,500rpms. Max power is from idle - 5,500....which is exactly what I need with my gearing. Not much top end, but garunteed to see my tails from redlight to redlight lol.
