I was doing a burnout a while back, and after I hit 2nd and then let off...I felt the car bouncing a little. I thought my rear wheel was starting to come off or either I had broken an axle. Then I heard a poping sound and checked out my u-joint. It doesnt seem to be broken, but its lose. I can take my hand and slide it back and forth, and wiggle it just a fraction of an inch. The clamps are as tight as they will go. Is there a possibility the cap is just a fraction of a inch too small...or are my clamps bent? It didnt give any problems till I did a burnout and put pressure on it.
I figured its just the clamps bent a little from it breaking u-joints and ripping them out so many times before..and not letting it hold the caps tight...but I thought Id ask. Have any thoughts?

Could be that you cracked it, that's pretty common with aftermarket joints that have a grease fitting. Do the caps move it the straps or does the u-joint itself move side to side inside the caps?

The caps move inside the clamps a little, but the joint moves inside the cap also. It was tight till It had pressure on it from the burnout. Only thing I can think of is the caps are worn from all the joints breaking and ripping out in the past..and the pressure caused it to bow just a little. There is no way the yoke on the rear end could have bent and done it is there? It looks ok, no damage visable.

It's most likely the straps but the yoke has two tabs on the sides the center the u-joint, those could be damaged. If it is the yoke I have an extra one you can have.

Ill check the yoke when I take the u-joint out and check it all out. Ill get back to you about the yoke, IF I get a chance to work on it tomorrow. Might be raining when I wake up. The yoke wasnt damaged when I put this latest u-joint in, and I dont think it could have moved enuff to damage it...but you never know, weirder things have happened. So ill take the clamps/straps off and drop the driveshaft out of the way to check it out.

The clamp/strap on one side was bent up higher on one side then its suppost to be. I think I have another one laying around here somewhere, ill put it back on and it should fix it.

I'd get new bolts too just incase the old ones got streched. I'd also run a tap thru the holes too.

I know I need to check out one of the bolt holes before I put it back. It seemed a little hard to get out, so ill have to check it.

It will be fixed before it gets painted..because I have to drive it over to my grandpa's to paint it. Figured Id put it in the barn and paint it, just incase a thunderstorm pops up before it dries. Which could happen very easily.

A barn? you have any idea how much dust a paint gun kicks up? If you paint it there you'll have to set up some kind of ventilation system to suck out any dust that gets blown around from the floor, bottom of the car, ect. My Nova got covered in dust when I primered it, the surface isn't smooth at all. I know a guy that has a specail fan that will push dust and paint fumes away from the car, I'll probably paint the car in his shop when the time comes. (IF i decide to paint it myself)

Yea Ive already planned ahead. This is more of a old old shop then it is a barn. But I call it a barn because its not a true shop. Ill probally buy a big roll of plastic. Put a layer on the floor, tack a layer on the roof, and seal off all 4 sides. Plus im going to use a air compressor that my other grandpa has, its a little smaller but alot newer. The old one that runs air to the barn is so old it has small specs of trash/rust that can come out every once and a while. Thats the last thing I need is a rough paint job. So basically it will be in a dust free plastic room lol.
Another thing that will make it rough is if you dont put enuff thinner in it.

Yeah but I put too much thinner in the first time I tried priming the Nova, ran like crazy, I had to sand in about 7 places and then spray it again.

Bet that was fun eh? lol I hate it when that shit happens...you have to wait for the shit to try, then go thru sanding it all back down..then risk doing the same all over again when you start to paint again.

You still have the yoke that bolts to the rear end? If so I might have to see about getting it from you, im going to call my grandpa see if he has anything around that will fit...if not how much you want for it? Mine is fucked up royally, dont think it was bad enuff to have done it this time...so obviously it was like this from last time and didnt notice it. Mine is worn out next to the bolt hole, and "caved" in on the threads. Which isnt good at all. They are hardly no threads at all on the bolt that came out of that hole.
