wow ive never seen a forum go on offsubject for so long... ;D eheh its koo, u guys have put a liking in me for novas (well i already liked em) ya im wondering how do u figure if a body is in good shape or not, like what spots do you look for rust to tell the body is in good shape? ive been wanting to get a project car for about 1 year now especially since 2 of my buddies are starting a little company building crate engines...one of em is a machinist and he just dropped his engine in his 77 firebird...i forget what kinda engine it is, he says its one of the biggest ford blocks you can get. It sounds loud as hell...i seriously have never heard a car so lound on the street, we were supprised he hasnt gotten pulled over yet. The car is running like shit though cuz his timing is off, hes supposed to have fixed that sunday. Needs some tuning but hes gonna be at the track in no time. That car is a fricken boat though. 5000lbs and he figures about 500-600hp to the wheels Its a total sleeper! the car looks like shit ...i guess its not that much of a sleeper if u listen to it though... the body needs alot of work nways ive taken enough of your time lata (btw ill find out what the engine is)

"ya im wondering how do u figure if a body is in good shape or not, like what spots do you look for rust to tell the body is in good shape?"
Its kinda hard to say...each model (year and type) of car has its own spots that tend to rust. Plus if a car has a fresh bondo job, and new paint, it can be hard to tell. Main thing is look under the car...see if the floor is rusted out, while your under there look on the insides/under the 1/4 panels and rocker panels. Other places would be harder to spot places that have been patched before...because alot of places you cant see the backside of.
An example of what I just talked about "each model of car has its own spots that tend to rust". My body style nova and some of the older ones...tend to leak around the trunk. So on my style nova if I was looking at one, one of the first places I would look is at the trunk's floor...and the tail light panel. Plus on alot of cars its for them to catch trash down inside a gap between the floor pan and 1/4 panels (just the way most cars are built).
Another example is of the older model trucks...alot of those you see have rusted cab corners. They tend to trap dirt and trash in those..and over years the corners rust.

Bring a magnet with you when looking at a car. That'll tell you if its rusty or not.. Also knock. You can tell the difference between bondo and metal.

And if the bondo guy sucked...and you knock you will definitly tell if it has bondo on it. It will crack or fall out lol.

I've found that every car is diffrent, my old Nova rusted under the car and my current Nova rusted on top. The biggest problem with my old one was the rear inner fenders rusted out and the rockers filled up with mud and sand, and that shit is like a sponge so the rockers were gone.

It also depends on where the car is from..or where it has spent most of its life I should say. Luckly I only found 1 rusty hole in my car. It was a fairly small one under the rubber that goes around the trunk.
