I dont know if its the right name for it...but has anybody ever seen the figure 8 screws on the older cars? I have some still on my truck..and they can be a pain to get off. I dont have the right screwdriver for them...and I havent been able to find one.
My automechanics teacher tried finding me one couple years back, and he even asked the Snap-On tool guy that came by the school each month. But he couldnt find one. Its bad enuff trying to get them off without the right screwdriver....even worse when they have been on there for over 45 years.
I took a big phillips screwdriver, and grinded the end (not all of it), off and made somewhat of a figure 8. It worked on most..but I still have some that it just wants to strip out.

Ive gone thru and put new bolts and screws in the truck. As many as I can that is. But I still have a few of the old figure 8 screws on the truck. Some bigger ones in the bed holding the rear step side fenders on...and some smaller ones on the inside holding the metal dash panels on.

Nope, I've never seen those before, have your tried those Craftsman "screw out remover" things? They'll ruin the screw but it should be able to get them out.

Nope havent tried one of those. A old phillips grinded with the tip flat..works on some of them. But the ones with more rust are hard to get off.

Nah its a screw. (will BIG screw..more of a bolt really). Alot of cars had them in the 50's. But they just stopped using them all of a sudden...and I think everybody lost the screwdrivers lol.
