well my old camaro had a 383 stroker when i bought it. but thats just it, it only had a stroker. stock gearing and the same 1979 valvetrain on it.
the guy i bought it from didnt seem to know very much .he said he just put on it whatever his friends said to. it had the stroker bottom end, stock cam and valvesprings. edelbrock performer RPM intake and a holley 750cfm carb with vacuum secondaries that didnt even work.
well i took it to the track as soon as i got it thinking it would run at least 13s. that night i would get halway down the track and the car would die! i had to coast to the finish. this happened everytime and my best time was a 16.1 @ like 55mph.
well after a lot of cussing and being embarassed i found out that it wasnt getting any fuel in the high RPMs. stupid holley carb's fuel filters were clogged and i didnt get to take them out until after i went home.
so i bought an edlebrock performer 750cfm and it didnt seem any faster when i was driving it, but it didnt die either at higher RPMs. at the track the next week i ran a 15.19 @ 93.5 mph on a 60' of 2.4 i had ran a best 60' of 1.79 but that run i just somehow sucked... but i got my fastest time of the night.
two days later the fuel line i had put on with hose clamps came undone as i was driving and the car went up in flames.. never to be driven again.
i forgot to mention that since my old valvesprings were so crappy... i was getting valvefloat at 4500rpms and didnt even know it.
i have bought a completely new valvetrain for the engine to put in my new camaro. its got comp cams valvesprings, new cam, lifters and roller rockers.
my new camaros rear end is a 3.51 where my old one was a 2.78 or something. hopefully my new one will at least do low 14s my first time out. tune it all up and she should be pulling mid-low 13s. ad some nitrous and say hello to twelves.
